Renew your Medicaid or CHIP coverage

As COVID-19 becomes less of a threat, states will restart yearly Medicaid and CHIP eligibility reviews. This means your state will use the information they have to decide if you or your family member(s) still qualify for Medicaid or CHIP coverage. If your state needs more information from you to make a coverage decision, they’ll send you a renewal letter in the mail. Go to Medicaid.gov/renewals, find a link to your state Medicaid office and confirm your contact information is up-to-date.

Medicaid and CHIP have your kids covered so they can start the school year ready to learn. These programs offer free or low-cost health insurance for kids up to age 19 – and enrollment is open year-round. Parents, Medicaid might cover you, too. Select your state to find health insurance programs in your area or call 1-877-KIDS-NOW.

All states* provide comprehensive coverage for children, including:

  • Routine check-ups
  • Immunizations
  • Doctor visits
  • Prescriptions
  • Dental care [Find a Dentist]
  • Vision care
  • Inpatient and outpatient hospital care
  • Laboratory and X-ray services
  • Emergency services
  • Mental health services

Renew Your Medicaid or CHIP Coverage

If your kids are already enrolled in Medicaid or CHIP you need to make sure your address is up-to-date with your state so you don’t miss your renewal form when it comes in the mail.

Usually, you have to renew their coverage every year to keep them covered. Make sure your state has your current mailing address, phone number, email, or other contact information, especially if you have moved in the last year. This way, they’ll be able to contact you about your Medicaid or CHIP coverage.

Your state will mail you a letter about your coverage, including renewal information. This letter will let you know if you need to complete a renewal form to see if you still qualify for Medicaid or CHIP. Complete and return your renewal form (if you get one) to your state right away to help avoid a gap in coverage.
