Engaging Parent Mentors to Increase Participation of Eligible Children in Medicaid and CHIP

November 8, 2018

Parents who have at least one Medicaid or CHIP-enrolled child can be excellent parent mentors by assisting other parents with the health coverage application and renewal process. They can also provide guidance on identifying medical and dental homes and community pharmacies for children, provide assistance and referrals to successfully address social determinants of children’s health, and act as a liaison between the families and the state. This webinar details the parent mentor approach, which is helping to close the remaining gap between the eligible children who are insured and those who are not. The discussion, guided by Dr. Glenn Flores, Chief Research Officer and Director of the Health Services Research Institute at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, outlines data-driven insight into proven strategies and best practices for engaging parent mentors in Medicaid and CHIP outreach and enrollment activities.
